Help!!!!

i just built my first computer. It has a q6600 quad core. i am using the stock heatsink and fan. but i have a x-clio windtunnel case (2 25cm fans), that i thought would be good enough for cooling. I dosent seem like it though, because it seems to run as 100c (214f) at idle. It keeps shutting down whenever i try to do anything. Could it be that i didnt put the artic silver thermal grease on right? I have no idea. I wrote this on the computer that isnt working. Thank you.

Most likey the heatsink isn't installed properly, make sure all the pins are pushed in properly. Als make sure you only have a thin layer of thermal paste.

It might make a bit of difference, but shouldn't be anything noticeable, to get 4GB to show up/work 100% you need a 64-bit operating system, but they are currently somewhat slow and buggy compared to 32-bit operating systems even when taking into account the 1.25GB ram you get with 64-bit.

It would make a difference but only if you're something with the computer that actually uses all the available RAM and forces the system to go to the swap file a lot. If you aren't using all the available RAM your system will perform fine. It's when the system goes to the swap file a lot that you will notice the performance of your computer start to suffer. Read this article. It deals with WinXP but the information about virtual memory (swap file, pagin file) is relevent for any Windows OS.

Try to keep it under 70C when running full out.
