4gig ram installed, showing 2.75
Friend just installed Vista Ultimate on his laptop, he has 4 gig Ram installed ( Samsung I think ). Vista is showing him with 2.75 Ram. I just read the thread about some else having smilier problem. I see he needs 64bit version. How do I check to see what Version of Vista he installed because He has no idea. He installed Vista Ultimate, I asked him did it give you a choice 32bit or 64bit, what did you install? He can't remember so how do I check and see whether he installed 32bit or 64bit?
Thanks Ken |

its automatically 32-bit, a 32-bit oc will recognise anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 GB depending on onboard graphics, integrated memory, and other system resources..i don't understand why a lappy would need anymore than 2 gb to start with though...

Thanks, my friend just thinks the more the better. When I get his nVidia drivers loaded I am guessing that it will recognize maybe a bit more ram. He uses his laptop mostly for game play. I told him I tought that moving to Vista was not such a great idea right now. All his games were working great in XP.
Anyway thanks Ken |

64-bit OS will not necessarily help with recognizing all of the installed ram. If the chipset is 32-bit (which is common on laptops) then you will most likely still have an issue with not recognizing the full amount of ram. In terms of performance, you won't see that much of an improvement from 2.75GB to 4GB, and 64-bit has it's own issues which will most likely make it feel slower than having less available ram in 32-bit.

I use windows vista home premium (basically a cut-down ultimate) and 2 GB of ram on my desktop...It never even gets close to using %60 ram...with about 62 procceses runing, I use 32% ram on idle...(655 MB) .... Vista is not as bad as you think it is... ![]()
