Your graphics card is more of a bottleneck than your CPU, so yes it is still good for the newest games, only just though.

That means it is limiting the CPU in terms of games. If your PC was a bottle, the graphics card would be the neck.

The processor will work fine with MMORPG and FPS games, but you will have trouble playing RTS games since they are primarily CPU oriented.

I would reccomend at least a 4800+ or 5200+ for that gpu...I have no Idea how that gpu is a bottleneck I think the cpu kind of is. I own an 8800 GTS (320MB version...) with a 5600+ and look at the benchies in my sig.

Depends on the game. You wouls see an improvement in RTS games, but in FPS there would probably not see a difference with a faster CPU.

What is the fastest CPU your motherboard supports?

The 8800GTS is still a decent video card...upgrading the CPU seems like the way to go.

The fastest CPU for the motherboard would most likely be the Athlon X2 6400+ since pretty much all AM2 processors work on any of the AM2 motherboards. Not sure if phenom is compatible with that motherboard, but it looks like phenom still has issues, so if you're looking for a quad-core, best wait until the B3 stepping is out.

Is it worth it to wait for something better or will there be something else to upgrade. I mean by the time I wait to get enough money or until they fix issues with the phenom theyll have something better right? Also if I were to get a new CPU now would the quad-core be a much better choice than a fast dual-core?

An Athlon X2 6400+ will be a pretty big improvement over the current processor you have (2.2GHz currently, 3.2GHz with the 6400+). Unless you do a lot of multitasking, or you play only RTS games, there isn't much of a reason to get quad core. The Athlon X2 6400+ performs better in gaming (other than RTS) than the phenom, is a bit cheaper, and will work on your motherboard whereas phenom upgrades don't go all that well for most AM2 motherboard (new bios may fix that). Either way, you'll need to update the BIOS if you intend to upgrade your processor.

Eventually im going to go SLI so i picked this motherboard.

Usually SLi isn't worth it. By the time you eventually get another graphics card there will be a mainstream card out there that will outperform those two cards in SLi and will support newer features and games.
