I'm working on my first built and I ordered an Intel E6750 Core 2 Processor, and I plan on using the stock heat sink that came with the processor as it will suit my general computing needs. But, the retail package did not come with any thermal compound and in the heat sink installation directions there is no mention of using thermal compound. I was wondering if it would be necessary to purchase some thermal compound or if I can proceed without?

With the retail processor, you get a retail heatsink that already has thermal paste on it.

You may proceed.
As long as you see some sticky stuff on the heatsink, you're good to go. |
