Question Need: Better and quieter cooling

Current configuration:

EVGA 590SLI mobo
AMD Windsor 5200+ X2 at 2.6Ghz (downclocked to 2.2, just to help kill the heat)
WD 160gig HD (single platter design)
Nvidia 6800 graphics card.
Rosewill 450psu.

As you can see it's nothing crazy. Right now I have it all in a Rosewill R6A34
which I actually really enjoy, but the heat is a problem right now.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to getting a new case, or making this one work better? It has two 120mm fans in it, running at negative pressure.

Thankss

Two fans are all you should need (or even one) as you don't have that much in the box. Why are you saying you are having heat problems?

The Temps

Well, I'm using speed fan and it's a bit confusing...

System: 46-50c
CPU: 47-50c
AUX: 52c
Local: 32c
Remote: 31c
HD: 25c
Temp1: 40c
Core: 30c
Core: 50 - 60c

My main problem is that one of the cores gets really hot, like 70 degrees was it's highest. The AMD cool and quiet makes my PCU fan run amazingly loud. Not sure what to do.

My understanding is that Speed Fan is not too reliable on temp readings. For example your "system" temp is 50°C but you have a core at 30°C. The system is not going to be cooler than your CPU (any core).

Another example is that I had a lot more than your system (as 4 HDs) with only one rear case fan. I have even more than that in there now, but do have a second, front, case fan. I put that in for a sound test and have never bothered to take it out. It's also on the PS fan connector and hardly spins up due to overall low temps (except game play in the summer, and the like).

Yeah, I figured Speed Fan was kind of... odd. Problem is when my core (the second one) gets to higher temperatures the main PC fan begins to spin so loudly that it's insane. Plus the temp rises to an amazingly high level... nearly 70. If I take one of the case fans out then the air in the case just builds up.

How do you have the fans setup? The rear should be exhaust and the front should be intake.

Yep, that's how it is. I have a SilenX fan in the back, and the case one up front. The one up front is running at a slower speed than the one in back.

120 front is on intake, rear is on exhaust. There's also the small fan on my PSU exhausting it's own stuff.

See about running Core Temp. (or Intel's TAT). Cooling that case should be easy. Have a similar Rosewill case and love the thing (and temps. are real good).

Interesting, I'm running it and it says:

Core #0: 32c
Core #1: 36c

So what the hell is running at nearly 60c on my board? Oy...

"Need: Better and quieter cooling"

Quieter and better cooling means larger fans and more fans....all of which are running below their rated speeds. It also means blowing out your system with compressed air on a frequent basis.

More fans and a multi-fan controller, (given nothing else is wrong), is what you need. You may need to break out the hole cutter and install an "outtie" on the top back.

The graphics cards tend to run hot, mine runs about 50c all the time, where my CPU is 28c now.

I was kind of figuring on this, I think I'll go with it. I may also install a side vent... this case has a hole there, but nothing to move the air near it.

You have a CPU, a vid card, and one hard drive, yes? I'll stick with saying you do not need more than 2 fans at most. Just for example, I'm down to only 6 hard drives and run only two fans. I ran only one fan when I was running 4 hard drives... I don't see a need for more fans, controllers, or case modding. If your system is running stable, then you don't have an overheat problem.

I imagine you're probably right I think I might put a fan controller on though, just so I can keep the fans quiet when I'm not doing anything too intense. Right now the highest temperature on my cores that I've seen is about 49 degrees. I'm still trying to figure out what Speed Fan thinks is nearly 60c. Not sure...

Thanks much.

You should be good as is like TwoRails said. 49 is good for the cpu.

I just put in two of these 92mm in my case.

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16835129042

and one PCI fan right under the graphics card.

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16835888602

With all three running it sounds like a small vacuum cleaner running but the core doest get about 54C at load and as low as 27C at idle.

i just looked at your case again and I have basically the same layout. I tried putting a 92m fan on the CPU duct and the temp shot up 20C in about a minute. I turned it off and its run great ever since.

Here:

I have a 590 SLi Mobo too. It runs in @ 49c (Stock Northbridge Cooling is atrotious)
I have a 5600+ @ 2.8 GHz. It runs @ about 37c.
I also have an 8800 GTS and it's running @ 60c
My BIOS Case temp is 40c, while my Sensor says 28c. (The sensor is very acurate, it said my room was 20.9c)

btw: speedfan happens to pull temps from a magic hat. It only really works with nForce 4 motherboards.

Any recommendations on how to cool that Northbridge?
