Partition Problem: Change the storage size ratio between 2 Partitions on 1 Drive.

Hey all,

I have a great deal of PC experience.. including web & graphic design, worked part time for a pc repair shop, etc. Anyhoo, I built my current machine a few years back and all I really do is game on it. However, I have to do some college work, and need to install Visual Studios 2005 which requires that some files go to the C:, which is full, and I MUST have everything that is on it ATM.

I have tons of storage on my PC, and my main SATA hard drive is split into 2 partitions: C: and D:, D: being the backup/storage of the system. I thought that I could get away with keeping C: @ 20gb, however, I was wrong.

Now, I created the partitions using Palrtition Magic, and usually have no troubles. However, this time around, I went to resize the D:, and it creates Unallocated Space below D:, instead of sandwiched in between C: and D:, and for whatever reason, this makes the new unallocated gb's unavailable for the resizing of my C: partition. I can create a new partition out of it, etc., but CANNOT increase the size of my C: partition.

What do I do? I'm using Partition Magic v8.0, and have had no trouble with it in the past. Right now, I am tryin' to simply resize the D: down, leaving the newly formed 60gb void as unallocated. I'm hoping that when I reboot after this process, I will THEN be able to use this newly formed unallocated in my resizing process of C:. However, I doubt it will work.

You can use PM to move the D partition to the end of the drive. Just be careful and do it one step at a time instead of queuing up operations. Shrink D, let it go where it wants, then move it. Then you can stretch C. 3 separate steps, 3 reboots. Use the GUI in Windows.
