Raptor damaged?

I was having problems with xp and vista, finally i got a new xp cd and tried to install xp to my raptor, but when i try to reformat it its telling me it could not finish because my drive my be damaged. What program can i use to check it, and should i wipe my 500gb drive in install windows on that for now? I tried dban and it didnt work

Download the diagnostics for it: http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?swid=1

Make sure it's the dos version.

If DBAN wouldn't work on the Seagate 500, better run SeaTools on it too. If *BOTH* drives fail, it may not be coincidence, you may have a core hardware issue you need to troubleshoot and deal with - ram, flaky expansion card, power supply, or even motherboard or CPU.

downloaded the dos file for the raptor, looking for seatools now. Will try both and give the results, its sad when you spend 2k on a pc n the stuff like this happens.

tried to use the raptor dos file and got this message

negitive i had the wrong image file, i got the test running, the quick test said no errors, now im running the extended then il run the zero write

during the extended test my comp locked up with 5:22 secs to go, tried to abort but it was deffinitly froze. Re started and now i cant get back to it, gonna try an xp install again and see what happens. trying to write zeros to drive il post the results

I think you have a core hardware issue like I've already suspected. You sure the CPU heatsink is properly installed? What is the CPU temperature in the bios?

I fixed it, everything is working fine now. i had to zero the drive and do a clean install. I think it was because i had did so many xp, vista installs on it(im talkin 7 of both at least). And it just had files left over on it. Now im ready to get back to the task i was at, overclocking lol. Thanks for the help everyone, i luv this site
