Wow, lots of work...too bad he scrapped the whole thing in the end. Nice try at a totally passively cooled system though.

Looks like it could have worked. The problems were from probably the bad motherboard, so I think he was successful.
Definately a lot of effort, but would be a nice tihng to try one day. |

I like the idea of using the case as an integral part of the cooling as in directly cooling components. I like quiet PCs.

I think it would be possible for a low end PC, with say a Celeron dual core and integrated graphics. There are passive PSU's out there, but they rely on the air movement caused by case fans in a normal PC, so I don't think it would work without opening it and mouting bigger heatsinks with heatpipes.

neat idea, but i would rather have a noisy computer. that case had to have ended up the size of a small refrigerator.

I wonder if the oil PC would be OK being on 24-7? I mean, eventually the oil would get really hot, the case doesn't have much surface are to dissipate the heat. And I don't think I would trust an oil filled PC in my lounge with $3000 of brand new carpet just installed. Imagine waking up and seeing 40 litres of mineral oil soaked through your lounge :/

I was reading the site that made a video about their oil pc. and it said that they have kept the computer on and the temps max at 88. They later added a radiator, and that dropped the temps to a large degree. They used no fans on the radiator either, so it should work.
A nice radiator, and some good fans on it could make for good overclocking. |

shadowpr, i liked the bubbler, outstanding touch. when i actually get around to building my kids each a computer I'm going to give this a try. I think usb bracket added to the top of the tank lid would be a good idea.
