Water coolers are they worth it?

I'm thinking of getting water cooling for my pc. Wondering how many of you have water coolers and are you happy with them?

thanks

Thats a simple question with a complex answer. It depends on why you want watercooling and how much you are willing to spend. If you want a quieter computer and are willing to spend the money then go for it. If you want a computer that is not all that much faster than a computer with aftermarket air cooling then great. Personally, I wanted both and was willing to spend the money to do it.

Whether or not you are going to be happy with your watercooling depends on how careful you are and how much you are willing to spend. The cheapest kits are basically junk that will only serve to frustrate you and put your hardware at risk. I would say overall that if you are willing to spend the money for quality and are willing to accept that watercooling will not get you all that much more clock speed than the noisier aftermarket air cooled heatsinks then go with watercooling. Keep in mind also that overclocking and aftermarket cooling invalidates most warranties.

like david said, with basic water cooling, you will not get a huge advantage over high end air cooling. the difference comes when you start using things such as peltier blocks (water blocks that use electrical energy to cool below freezing). either way, watercooling can get expensive really fast, so if you have some money and want a cool looking pc, go for it.

in the end, watercooling is for the computer enthusiast with money.

Water Coolers can be nice for parching one's thirst and talking with fellow employees, but why would two computers need them to talk with one another? Are they not networked? Besides, I've never been much of a water drinker anyhow.

What I usually go by is..

Are you planning to overclock? Remember, the water in your system can only be as cool as the ambient temperature. So even at that, when your PC is running, the temps will be about 10 above ambient temp (educated guess).

But, personally I think it's worth it and worth the experience. It mainly depends on the application, just like what David M said.
