Noisy 1.44 drive

Every once in a while I need a floppy drive so I have one installed in this PowerSpec B300- Dualcore 2.26Ghz, 945GC chipset and 1 Gig of DDR2 667.
The problem is that frequently when I am moving files around in Explorer or to or from a usb stick, the floppy drive goes nuts, banging around. I'm not using it mind you. Reminds me of a cat when I'm on the phone.
Is there a remedy to this situation?

using an external drive would be easiest.

I believe you, but I'd like to know what causes it and what else can be done.

Keep your recently used documents list in the start menu cleared.

Thanks GLC, I just got rid of the "recent documents" icon. I never use that anyway.
Can you tell me what the connection is between that icon and the floppy.

If a file was opened on a floppy and appears in the recent documents list, whenever you open Explorer, etc. it will scan the floppy drive.
