Is your lite-on dvd-r loud?

Mines make this clicking noise every once in a while. Sounds abnormal and is not like anything I've experienced with other drives. Does your drive click as well?

Thanks.

I used to sell them, seems to me I remember faint click that just seemed a bit weird, but never an issue, as for overall usage, they were loud drives.

I must be lucky or hard of hearing but my Lite-On is very quiet.

Don't have any in this box, but I've used them in other builds and didn't notice anything unusual.

What model is it, just for curiosity...

It's the http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=Liteon

Everytime I run a disk, burn a disk, there's a click click click, like the drive is ripping my disk apart. Lol.

I would imagine that too but on the reviews, users are experiencing the same problem too. But I guess int he end, it gets the job done and doesn't eat up my disk. *knock on wood*

I put one in a friends machine, I'm pretty sure I could hear it spinning up when I was sat outside in my car with all the windows up. Some of them are loud drives.

My son (who I could touch with a short stick Alexjfinch) and his friend Rhys (also a member here somewhere) became hysterical with laughter after I announced the purchase of my first LiteOn drive. At the moment I have two running in my own machines and I have fitted about ten to customers machines and as far as I know they are all silent, at least my two are.

I thought that sound was only emitted from my 4 cyl Chrys Sebring. I've used Liteon drives exclusively for several years. The older CDRW drives were a bit noisy but the newer DVD-RW's are quiet. No clicking from any of mine either

I forgot to mention. The only LiteOn drives I have ever fitted have been DVD drives, I have heard that some of the CD drives were noisy.

The only LiteOn DVD drive I've bought recently was a super-cheapy, in fact, the LiteOn name doesn't appear anywhere on it as far as I can remember. It's LOUD, very LOUD on operation, at least twice as noisy as my NECs. I'm putting that down to me being ultra-cheap on that purchase, though.

Like mentioned above, that's not normal. The link didn't work for me (I got a "done" but had a blank page). I was just going to Google that particular model and search for similar complaints. I've read a few reviews in the last year or two where some LiteOn models are not up to their normal standards and was thinking maybe your model might be one of them...

I bought half a dozen of these awhile back from one of my suppliers:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...160P6S&cat=DVD
What made them a good buy was not only the price but the fact they had interchaneable bezels for beige or black cases.
I think I paid about $20 a piece for them on offer and thats possibly a couple of years ago now.

The majority of people complain that it is loud while running. But I don't know if it would be a defect for me to rma. I'll try to record a sound clip with my mic and see if i could upload it somewhere to see if you guys ever heard this clicking sound.

Just noticed that you have a Lian-Li case. If it's like my Lian-Li built case (Rocketfish) it has screwless slide-in racks. You need to add a couple screws to mount it more solidly, I bet the clicking will go away.

I think mines is an older case and it does have screws. I have four screws to mount it down

I have 2 DVD drives (for just in case situations) and both are quiet. But I must say, the samsung one is silent. The Lite-On one tend to be louder than fans while its playing or burning. no clicking though.

I hesitate to recommend Samsungs due to past history of unreliability.
