Hi ive been trying to decide what new system to get and still am not sure im thinking about sli but dont know what 2 cards to get or even if 2 cards are better than 1 9800gx2

for my budget i can get 2 768mb 8800gtx cards are they good or is 2 1024 8800gt's better?
or 2 1024 9600gt's?

also is the ASUS® STRIKER || EXTREME: DUAL DDR3 a good board?

1 9800gx2 = 2 8800GT

However, 2 8800GT is cheaper than 1 9800gx2

From your list, the 2 768mb 8800gtx will have the best performance, however, SLI will not give you much performance boost to be worth the extra money.

You should wait for the 9900 series to be released some time in june before you make a purchase.

That board striker extreme ddr3 is a ddr3 board so you'll have to go with ddr3 ram which is not worth it.

I have 2 9800GTX's. Best video gaming preformance I've ever seen. EVery game plays at high fps with no hickups or anything. I can work with Maya x64 just fine too. Generates 1GB files in 28 seconds.

There won't be a 9900 series, the new cards from Nvidia will launch as the GTX 260 and GTX 280.

Yea I haven't been up to date with that, but from the last time I read, they say that the code name GT200 = 9900.

But it should be exciting.

It will be exciting, and probably too expensive for me (260GTX is said to be about $450 and 280GTX is said to be about $600). Hopefully ATI will have something out to be excited about in the $200-$300 range.

ATI won't excite me till they fix their awful driver package. I was a long-time ATI user and fan, but when they dumped the classic control panel for that Catalyst Control Center, they killed themselves. Nvidia's drivers and utilities are superb in comparison. I'm not a gamer, but my newest build has Nvidia.

You always have the choice to download just the drivers without Catalyst Control Center. For the most part you don't even need CCC if you are running just one monitor with the desktop set to native resolution.
