yamaha cdrw not working properly..help

Okay, whenever I record stuff from the hard drive to the cd, I get this error message:

Exception: 'Write' command failed on device 0:1:0
Unrecoverable hardware error (04h 00h 04h 08h 03h) [subcode=-40]

I tried different cds, different speed to write, and still the same.. What could be the problem?

It's a yamaha 16x10x40x

Help?

1.4 Athlon
Epox 8k7a
256 Crucial Ram
40 7200 Maxtor

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
The Yamaha 16/10/40 claims to be a very unreliable burner, so if there's still warranty on it I'd replace it, or better give it back and take a better burner (sony, ricoh or even plextor).
That could be the reason for the "unrecoverable hardware error" - the yamaha went south once again. Sorry.

RJ,
I've found out the problem with the cdrw. After I've uncheck DMA, and restart, I've yet to have any problem with it.. So I think it's just that. At first, I thought it was a hardware problem..because of the error message, but then it's really not.. *I hope*..
Now that you mention about CDRW brands, I'd like to ask this questions? What's the BEST cdrw to the WORST? I'm talking about quality/price/reliability. I've always seen review on cnet about yamaha, and that it was really good. It's expensive compare to other cdrw that u mention also.. Only plextor is more expensive on some cases. And Yamaha is BEST BUY's best cdrw!!! So..to rate these CDRW, what is best to worst?

Yamaha, Plextor, Richo, Sony, HP, Lite on, TDK..

And DVD?
Pioneer, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, Lite on..

thanks.
