RAM Problems
I have 2 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1066 MHz.
Whenever I play a game, especially Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, my RAM usage for that game goes from 72 MB's, to 900 MB's!!! It probably goes higher, but I close the game before I crash. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Or is my RAM dieing out? Had it for almost a year. |

It sounds like it's just a ram hungry game.
I wouldn't worry about it, unless you do have crashes. If you do have a crash, and it's just on that game, then look to see if they have a patch out. If truely concerned after that, that your memory is going bad, then use memtest to check it: www.memtest.org

It is normal for games to use a lot of RAM, I often get Crysis using 1300MB of my 2GB, but the game doesn't crash.

Thanks for your quick responses guys, as always.
![]() Anyways, that's the thing, with this game, it isn't supposed to use up that much RAM, it is an old game. I was wondering, does the fact that this game doesn't support Dual Core have anything to do with it? *Shutting off one core makes it work fine so that's what I've been doing* Thanks in advance guys, I will test the memory soon. And for the future I'm thinking about getting Vista 64 Ultimate and 2 x 2 GB Corsair DDR2 800 XMS2's. They're real cheap now . But not Vista .

Wait a minute......you close the game before you "think" it crashes based on ram usage? Never heard of that. Why not just let it use all the ram it wants and see what happens?

How do you know that it isn't supposed to use that much RAM? The more RAM you have, the more RAM stuff uses. So you can't compare the RAM usage to someone else who is running the game with 512MB of RAM, in which case the game would probably use 300-400MB.

Well I did let it go, and it went up to 1 GB but since then it doesn't really pass 750 MB.
I guess what your saying is right about more ram = more ram usage, I was just shocked you know, that half my ram was going towards a lower end game. When only 300-500 goes towards COD4. lol thanks guys. |

Well...........
It's kind of hard to make any diagnosis determination since you never gave us any hardware specs.
Do you have your RAM set to correct timings and voltage? There's one for starters.
