Can you ever delete all old files on your computer?

I was wondering..can someone ever succeeding in deleting all their files from a computer before trashing it or sending it to ebay.

I was told that if one decides to sell one's computer..it is recommended one cleans the hard drive.

How do you this and can it be done?

Yes.

http://www.dban.org/download

Download and burn to a cd. Then resatart the computer with the cd set to boot first. Follow the instructions.

Beware that this will ERASE ALL DATA.

Yes, it completely removes all data and all partitions. It puts the drive back to the state it was in when it was brand new. The only way to recover anything from that drive would be with very advanced forensics.

I've used that program when I sold old drives. You just have to disconnect your OS drive so you have no chance of screwing up.
