Trying to work with WD My Book
I was recently given a WD My or World Book with 2TB of storage. It has both Ethernet and USB connections on it. I am having a couple of issues with it.
First, it cannot be seen ether via Ethernet or USB Second, no software CDS came with it. Third, when I contacted WD they told me to use a software package called Shared Storage Manager. The problem is that I cannot find anyplace to download it. Fourth, as what I feel is the most important is that the unit is unable to identified. The model number is WD200000D033-001. Thanks for any help that you can provide. |

The USB port is not used to connect the drive to your system. It is used to connect another external drive to your NAS drive. Shared storage manager is like a router interface to see your parameters of your network drive |

You can also do this,
unplug from the router turn off your drive wait 30 seconds turn on your drive replug your cable into the router ping the name of your drive, if it replys type in \\nameofyourdrive\public if you can do this you are able to map your drive without the software you can also register your drive and active a web based account and view your drive anywhere |

Thanks for the help. I will give it a try tonight. Of course, I do not know if the drive already has a name. I am truly up the creek at this point. The e-mail help I received from WD all points to using the Shared Storage Manager. Is that contained within the MioNet software?

I believe the default name is mybookworld or myworldbook
so it would be or the latter \\mybookworld\public or \\myworldbook\public Storage Manager has nothing to do with MIONET, you can type in the ip address of your drive and you can access Storage Manager, MIONET does have the GUI for Storage Manager but its not neccessary www.mionet.com |

I have been able to log into my drive using the drive path and move some data (test only) over to it. I am unable to see the Storage Manager. When I go into the public folder all is fine. There does not appear to be anything in a higher directory. Also, I am unable to view the available space in the drive.
The above statement is only when directly connected through Ethernet from WD unit to computer. Still not working when connected to a router. It does not appear to be requested an IP address. It does not appear in my DHCP listings. Thanks again for your help. Last edited by wolfhound; 09-11-2008 at 03:06 PM. |

Your welcome, I am glad I was able to help Public folder is the only folder until you create others. In storage manager your create permissions and file sharing for the folders in the drive It depends on how many devices on your router and what your range starts at, mine is 192.168.2.101 for the network drive Last edited by itsgt; 09-11-2008 at 08:46 PM. |

Okay, here is a new twist. When I connect all the computers up to my DI-624 router my computer can no longer see the network drive. I am at a loss as to what setting it would be so that it can be seen by the network.
I have four computers and one slingbox connected to the router. All are working fine. I have my IP range set at XXX.XXX.X.1 to XXX.XXX.X.100 I am stumped. |

Okay, I have the unit up and running.
Here is what I found out. Actually located the owners manual online. Found out that if I do a hard reset to will turn DCHP on. Once I reset the unit I was able to see in my DHCP table on my router that it had received an IP address. Thanks again for working with me on this.
