Mouse gone wacky ...any ideas?
I posted the below on another forum, got no real answer. I plan to get another mouse, but I would like to claen house beofore I do, and the serial mouse I installed is good. I messed up in installing it, by putiing a mouse driver in the wrong spot. I want to get it striaght if possible.
I hope that I get a response! I have used a Logitech wheel mouse for a long time, and it started acting erractic, so I pulled out an old seriel mouse (Mitsumi) that I had in a box ..activated the seriel ports in the bios, and rebooted. the mouse worked. It tried to load some odd driver, and I made it load a mouse driver. The mouse does not show up in 'system properties / device manager', but it worked for about two days. Now the mouse pointer will only go vertical ...no side to side. I have deleted all I could find to do with mouse, in the registry, and sytem properties - and reloaded a number of times ...to no avail. Please help. This older machine I am on is OK, but I do want to get back on the faster ...MSI Pro 2 / Duron 650@824. Thanks Neos (Andrew in AL) |

It sounds like both of the devices are shot. The logitech may just be dirty. Try cleaning it if you have not already done so.
Easiest thing to do is go and get a couple of new ones. |

I can tell that it is software related. In my trying to fix it ...i.e. when I was deleting the logitech software ...there was a short period that it worked, then as soon as things were finished in that dept ...it locked back up side to side.
Please ...ideas, if any one can. I have the tendency to keep fiddlin to such a point that it eventually needs a total format and windows reinstall. God, I don't want that. Thanks, Andrew |

Hmm, it could be mouse driver conflicts.
First deinstall any mouse driver that is installed, then boot into safe mode, go to device manager and remove every mouse that is listened there. Plug in the Logitech mouse if it's not USB and boot. The mouse should be detected. Install the drivers and it should work now. If it's an USB mouse then boot without the mouse (if a box appears to tell you there is no mouse found. . click OK). When Windows is fully loaded plug in the mouse, it will be detected and then install the driver. It should work now. HTH, RJ

I have a logitech wheelmouse as well, and have also had some problems with it.
In my case simply cleaning the mouse out thoroughly, and reinstalling the driver software usually did the trick. A friend of mine also had the left-right movement problem with his mouse, turned out that the mouse could not stand being used in direct sunlight. Somehow the incoming light disrupted the light-sensors inside the mouse. I dont know if this is of any help to you, but it might be worth taking a look at. Good luck |
