CD Lable Printer Recommendadtion
What printer technology would people recommend for photo quality CD labels? Right now I'm using an old Alps ink jet printer and am printing on to Avery CD labels. The quality is getting worse and worse and the printer hasn't worked that well for a long time anyway. Should I be looking for a good laser printer or another ink jet? Or maybe just use Lightscribe, although I'm not certain how well Lightscribe works with photo images. Thanks, Chris

Lightscribe is slow and is only monochrome.
If label quality is the primary criteria, get an Epson Stylus Photo R280 and inkjet printable CD's. Ink cost will be a big hit and if it's infrequently used, the print heads will clog with dried ink. |

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking ink jet is the way to go for my labels. I don't print much else on this computer anymore anyways. Chris

I have two of the Epson's (R200 & R220) and they have printed well over 300 DVD's between them. As glc said, the ink can get quite expensive id you do a lot of discs. Refills list at about $15 each....retail.

You guys will laugh at me, no where near 300 CD's or anything. Actually, what I am doing is making CD backups for all of me and my wife's trips. I usually pick a nice picture from the trip and turn it into a label for the picture CD, hence the desire for nice looking picture labels. So it's only a few CD's per year max (zero in some years). Might want to look at new Epson. Just bougt an Artisan 700, prints CD's & DVDs. tried one, seems good . Epson has a nice discount if you don't need fax.

Why? It costs over twice as much as the R280, and he says it will only be used occasionally.
