Question Mouse freezes in Adobe Photoshop

Hi,
I was helping my friend with a problem he was having in Adobe Photoshop, his mouse only works in the bottom half of the screen, and if he gets out of the program it does this in every program. When he reboots it is fine and works in everything till he goes back into Adobe. I though it could be a virus, even though his virus software is up to date, and scanned his system with housecall.antivirus.com which showed no viruses. When that didn't work we saved his data and reformatted the hard drive and started fresh, and it still does it. I'm frankly stumped. We tried other mice and still the same thing. Anyone have any ideas? He is running Windows ME, K6-500 on a Asus mobo, 256K RAM, 10 Gig hard drive.
TIA

Hi JCB,
An older version I believe, 4.0. He's used it a couple of years and just started having this problem a couple of weeks ago.

Hi JCB,
Make that version 5.5, I just called him, I guess he updated it a while back. But it still was working fine till a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like a conflict between the mouse software and Adobe. See if there are any patches for Photoshop, and also make sure he has the most current drivers for the mouse. Also, try putting Win98 SE and see if it does the same thing. I haven't heard anything but horror stories about ME.

Get the latest patch and see if that helps. Update the mouse drivers too.
