Upgrading memory on a P5B-E

So I want to upgrade my memory, because ddr2 is dirt cheap now. I currently have 2 gigs of Corsair VS1GB667D2, but I want to upgrade to corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G. Now here's the thing.

In the manual it says: Due to chipset limitations, DDR2-800 with CL=4 will be downgraded to run at DDR2-667 by default setting. If you want to operate with lower latency, adjust the memory timing manually.

I know the memory I want is CL5 but is there anything I'll have to change in the bios? Or should it just be a matter of plugging the new memory in and that's it.

well it does not state that CL5 will downgrade to 667, it will stay at 800. your computer probably has a max of 667 mhz, since thats what your old ram is at, you cant go past what your mhz limits are on your mobo because it will probably not register your ram as existant in the mobo. also if you have other ram on there at a different mhz, then it wont register one of 2 types of ram, or it might cause problems.

Well, the mobo can accept ddr2-800, I think it's just that ddr2-800 with CL4 latency gets downgraded to run at 667 unless you manually adjust the timings. But ddr2-800 CL5 will run fine, or at least that's what I'm comprehending from the Asus user guide.

ah, i wasnt sure if your mobo supported 800mhz or not cuz the mobo was never specified. yea you should be fine then. but if you do find that it got downgraded to 667mhz then you can go into your bios and adjust it. its all a matter of if you can enter your bios thru the setup or if you have to change around the jumpers on the mobo, i prefer changing them on the setup, as its slightly easier that messing witha mobo.

If it's CL5, it will run at 800. Just plug it in.
