Overclocking video?

Hey guys I just got a new gig mobo with amazing overclocking features...bad part is that I don't have a clue on how to do it unless I use the program that comes included with the cd. And usually when I use it I don't get as high as I want and it gives me a blue screen which requires me to reload bios for windows to work again. So what am I suppose to do when I start overclocking.. I notice people do it different ways which confuse me when I watch on youtube.

Overclocking your machine is something you don't want to do in big steps. Do a small increase, run the machine for a while to check for stability. If no problems, try a little bit more. Better to slowly get where you want and be sure of getting there, rather than fall flat on your face on the very first step.

yea I have read but still confused on how to get things rolling every time i do something I don't see any improvements.

where is this stability test thing?

Turn PC on and drive it....If it doesn't crash, it's stable.

the computer runs great when I don't mess with the bios to much. But with everything stock the computer runs like a champ. I just want to bump up from 2.1 to 2.8 at least.

put the ram on a 2.0 divider....I'll bet when clocking you are way past the rams limits...

hit ctrl+F1 to get the advanced options...bump vcore 1 notch and boot it at the higher speed...should go without issue as long as you drop the ram to the 2.0 divider....

EDIT: you are definitely out of ram spec with that ddr667...I would have went with ddr800...alot more headroom...you wont get far with the ram you have...

And if it does crash, it may take motherboard and CPU down for the 10 count.

well how far can I take it with the 667?

what would you recommend to get?
my board can support up to DDR2 1333
what would be the best?

667 ram will get you to 1333 FSB, no higher, unless the ram is overclocked too.

so why should i get a better ram if i can get it up to 1333?

overclocking is harder than I thought.

I can't wait to overclock, my processor temp is around 22c-25c ideal

i think its screaming to get some heat.

Because if you can run the ram faster than 1:1, overall performance will be better.

If it were easy, the big OEM's would ship them overclocked or at least give you the way to do it. Overclocking is a HOBBY, not a necessity for a good performing computer. It's like performance modding your car.
