installing new harddrive question
My harddrive failed so I took it out and replaced it with the original 80 gb hd. I connected the old hd and my system booted up. So I purchased a 320 gb replacement. I had Acronis True Image on the original hd and made a copy of this hd on my new one. I took the original hd out and replaced it with the new one and put my hd that didn't work as the slave and it appears to work. My question is how do I transfer all the files from the slave over to the new hd? Should I use the Acronis True Image and copy the slave drive over to the main drive? And if I do this, does it just ignore duplicate files-that is I won't have 2 copies of Windows XP on the main harddrive? Thanks for any help!

Go to www.xxcopy.com and download/install the free XXCOPY utility.
Create a new folder on the new drive, call it "old". Assuming the new drive is "C" and the old drive is "D", here is the command line to use in XXCOPY: xxcopy d: c:\old /clone You will have to go into the folder afterwards and dig out what you need and move it to where you want it. |
