Can't access the old hdd in a new build
I have a problem accessing the old drive from my old computer, that is now a second drive in my new computer.
I run the Vista64 in the new one and the old drive has a XP Pro 32 on it. The second drive shows up under the Disk Management, but when I right-click on it, none of the options are available, except delete volume. It does not have a letter assigned to it, and that option is not even available. It says that it has 100% free space on it and under it's size it says: Online( Healthy, Primary partition ) Another difference with the primary drive is that under File System, it says nothing under it , while the main drive has NTFS written there. How could I access the files on that old drive? thanks |

Is it flagged in Disk Management as a "foreign disk"? If so, import foreign disk should be an option when you right click on it. If not, sorry, your data is gone, it's a dynamic disk. The only way to get it back is put it back in the old computer and copy the data you need to something else to bring it over.

It does not say anything about being foreign disk. I guess I 'm going to just put it back in the old computer then.

Give that a shot. It's your best chance to get your data without screwing it up worse. You could also *try* to use a USB adapter.
