cant install SATA hard drive

hi, ill try and keep it short as i can.
i got a virus so need to re-install xp home but i cant get the HD drivers to install. i had this problem when i first built it but thats because i didnt know anything about SATA, im still no genious... [i have the floppy with the necassary drivers on that i used last time to install the HD]
-boots from xp home cd
-i press F6 to install HD
-loads a few files before promting me to press "s" to load drivers from floppy
-i select 1 or both of them (ive tried all combinations)
-press enter which i then believe is supposed to go to another screen which should show my HD and capacity etc. (correct me if it isn't meant to do that)
-it instead starts loading the xp files again (without prompting to press F6) and when its finished loading them the computer just restarts

am i doing something wrong again or do you need more info? thanks

ive been 2 weeks without my own computer now!

It depends on the controller and what mode it's in, not whether it's home or pro.

I believe jase874 is attempting a RAID setup.

not exactly, i would rather just use one HD with one partition to keep it simple, only need it to work till windows 7 comes out.

however i am thinking of trying a RAID setup simply to see if it will work then as i am out of ideas really.

I installed XP pro a computer that required drivers that windows didn't have so here's what I did and it worked for me.
I setup the computer to boot from CD/DVD, inserted floppy and loaded windows until I got to the screen that says press F2 or F6 or whatever to load drivers. I think windows went ahead and scanned the floppy for drivers then displayed a list. Then I selected the appropriate one and continued to the format and copy stage. After that completed, removed the floppy and continued with windows installation with drivers in the system.

thanks for reply, doesn't solve my problem but i can say thats exactly what im doing except i get to where you "selected the appropriate drivers and continued to the format and copy stage", only it does not go to the format/copy stage it just starts loading the windows install files again and then computer restarts

also i have just tried to reformat an 80Gb IDE drive but it keeps getting stuck on 1%!!!!! for about half an hour!!

After you reboot does it automatically enter Windows XP setup? Do you tell it to?
