I have a HP model C5180 all in one printer that has given me nothing but trouble. Sometimes it refuses to scan and sometimes it will not print and other times it gets too jammed for me to clear. I am using my third exchange under extended warranty and I now need a fourth exchange. Exchanging the unit is no fun for a handicapped person like myself having to repack it for return shipment, not to mention the irritation, inconvenience and delay it causes.
I am getting to the point where I am willing to pay whatever it takes to buy a reliable and dependable All In One printer. I have checked all kinds of reviews for best machine and all I seem to run into is disagreement and conflicting statements. Can some of you folks out there help me in selecting an All In One printer with which you personally have had great long term results.? I would be willing to pay up to $500 or more, if necessary, for a reliable machine. I need a machine that will give me both good graphics and text, since the machine is used in conjunction with a book which I am writing. Thank you so much. |

I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828104638
I have no complaints about the printer itself either.

I would recommend a color laser printer and a separate scanner.

Im with GLC, buy seperate components. I dont think I've ever had an all-in-one that I loved. Something always goes wrong.

You convinced me to get separate components. I have been looking at a Canon Cano Scan 8800F scanner.
Does anyone have any comments about it or other recommendations for a scanner? Would I be able to install this scanner on my network to be operated by either computer? If so how? |

For a printer I am considering the HP Color Laserjet CP2025?
Any comments? |

Hmm - I just did some checking, color laser AIO's are now affordable. Check these out:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828115205 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828115246 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828115248 Your desire to have a network scanner threw a monkey wrench into the standalone scanner idea. Also, the AIO's are both flatbed and sheetfed. I just don't like the inkjet AIO's - they suck ink and don't last. HP lasers are well built. All 3 of those have a Jet Direct, connect it to your router, all functions are fully networkable. |

glc: If I decide that I can do without attaching a scanner to a network would the separate scanner be more dependable than the HP all in one laser jet you recommend or would the laser jet be more dependable?
I like the specifications on the Canon Cano Scan 8800F scanner, especially for the additional scanning of slides available. Would I be able to control such a scanner by one of my computers? If you think a separate scanner is still preferable would you happen to have a recommendation? |

That looks like an excellent scanner, the only other brand I'd consider would be an Epson. If you can live with scanning from only one computer - or manually disconnecting and reconnecting it - go for it. It will be better than the scanner on the AIO except it won't have a sheet feeder. The CP2025 looks like a good printer.
Now - as far as color lasers go - before buying one, I'd recommend if possible, go to a store (Best Buy, Fry's, etc.) and see if you can get a demo. Lasers output more of a matte finish color than an inkjet. You need to see if the output is acceptable to your eye. Toners are quite costly, but they last a LOT longer than ink cartridges. You can also use cheaper paper in lasers. Another option is another inkjet AIO. The HP Officejet 6310 is now down to 90 bucks. At that price, you can darn near toss the thing when the ink runs out (exaggerating somewhat). They seem to work okay and are reasonably reliable. Last edited by glc; 01-20-2009 at 01:12 PM. |

glc: Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate your comments. You are a tremendouis help to me as you have been in the past..
I think reliability is more important than a network setup. The frustrations we have experienced with our AIO is just too much. Accordingly, based on your comments I think I will go with the separate components. Thank you so much again. |

I have an hp 1610xi all in one printer and it recently just stopped printing - it says out of paper to load paper, but there is paper in there ?? It goes throught the motions like it is about to print but doesn't seem to be able to grab the paper? I also get a carriage jam error too, but mostly the out of paper error....
