Installing new IntelliMouse

When I purchased my computer it had a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite keyboard and
a Wireless Intellimouse. The software installed was IntelliType Pro 5.0 and IntelliPoint
5.0. About two years ago the mouse failed and I substituted a Logitech Model 2F-9F
serial mouse which worked without any new software. I recently purchased a Microsoft
IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 with IntelliPoint 5.2 software and a USB receiver. If I
install the 5.2 software will it work with the old receiver that came with the original
keyboard and mouse or do I have to use two receivers?

Should work with the old receiver but I would uninstall the old software using the Add/Remove programs area before installing the new stuff.

It "should" work. I have a customer that has gone through 3 Intellimouse wireless models and she has used the original receiver for the other two.

There is no entry for the Intellimouse, or for the keyboard, in add/remove.

I show Microsoft Intellitype Pro 6.2 in my Programs area in Vista. (not running a MS mouse) You sure there's nothing listed? How bout an Uninstall option in the Start Menu under Microsoft Keyboard or MS mouse?

Nothing in add/remove and nothing in All Programs. Where would the drivers be stored?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe the Intellitype or Intellipoint programs have anything to do with the drivers. They simply provide enhancements to the mouse and keyboard. You can program hot keys and assign different functions to the buttons and scroll wheel on your mouse with the software loaded. If you don't find any old software, then I'd go ahead and just install the new software.
