Old Hard Drive

Hi all it's been a long time since my last post. I have been able to find all my answers here. This time I haven't found the one I've been looking for and I know it has been ask time and again. I am fixing an older computer up for someone that doen't have the money for a pc. My question is . I have a 40 gig WD harddrive I want to use that already has XP installed on it. How do I get it to work ? I think its the video adaptor . I tried to uninstall it before I put it in but of course it kept reinstalling it. Any ideas Thanks

If you have the XP cd, just boot to that and do a Repair install.

I don't know what has happen . I turn the pc on to boot to the cd but it never came on it just gave me one long beep. I guess the old motherboard gave up. I unhooked everything except the hard drive and it still gave me the beep. I looked up the pc codes but didn't find one for the one long beep. Anything you guys know about this?
Thanks Again for the input
