Blue screen

On re installation of Vista Home Premium, I keep getting the blue screen when it restarts. Sent to HP for the reboot discs and thought that may solve the problem. At one point in time I could see that the OS was 97% installed and then the installation froze. I also was able to fill in the user info to complete the process and then it wants to keep the installation process going ad infinitum. My diagnosis is a corrupt HDD and should be replaced. Any other thoughts?

Computer model?

What does the bsod say? What is the stop code?

Are you using he restore discs that came with the computer, or are you using a recovery partition?

This machine belongs to a friend of mine and I offered to fix it for him. I have fixed and rebuilt every one of my computers over the years. This problem is new to me.

HP Touchscreen
Vista 32 bit Home Premium
Ordered install discs from HP, since discs are not included with new computers anymore.

I have been able to get the installation to the point of actually filling out name, address etc for the final setup. Then the screen indicates that the final setup is happening and it never stops.
After sometime the blue screen appears.

Also there is a window at the top of the screen with 2 codes and exit choices. When it hits 97% the install freezes.

I still think it is a corrupt HDD.

He told me that he wanted to use Cricket wireless and as soon as the install was complete it appears that a virus crashed his system.

Thanks

If you think it's a corrupt hard drive, determine the brand of drive and download the manufacturer's diagnostics.

Called HP support and they told me to take the HDD apart and replace the corrupt discs. LOL! Just going to replace the HDD and everything should be fine.
