D0 Stepping core i7 920

Just seen it for pre-order. Is this the really overclockable version or something?

The change was cosmetic.
One of the serial numbers was partially covered so they modded the IHS.
The insides are the same.

It's a real change, but a minimal one. They're supposed to run cooler and require less voltage for higher clocks. Like E0 stepping for core duos.

These CPUs definitely should run cooler and overclock better - there are no new features, but power consumption should be lower.
Here is a piece of news regarding i7 975XE D0 engineering sample from which we can conclude that D0 stepping is a stem in the right direction.

some of the DO's are not as good of clockers as the CO...just do a search...you'll see...

as with all over clocking it's a crapshoot...I wouldnt seel my good CO chip to buy a DO that doesnt or may not clock as well...

Makes no sense, whatsoever.

It makes sense. I meant to say, that this processor has no new new functions - at the same speed it should be just as fast as the old steppings - however, overall production process has been improved, so that newer stepping is more power efficient and produces less heat? Logical?
