Question External SATA drive question

I have an external SATA drive plugged into the rear SATA ports for obvious reasons. The only problem I have with it is that I have to turn it on and reboot my computer before it will recognize it. Is there any way to trick Vista 64 into recognizing it without rebooting? As soon as I turn it off it's gone until restart. I don't like leaving it running 24/7.

Any help appreciated.

You must be using an eSATA connection, correct? Don't think you can power up an external when it's connected via eSATA and have it recognized. I switched mine to usb for that very reason.

I've spoken to PR about that very problem as well.

I also had to switch to usb.

Thanks for the help. It is using an eSATA connection. It's not a big deal to reboot it to recognize but was wondering if there was a better way.

I leave mine running. It's in a proper housing with a fan.

The NAS drives and USB drives are still too slow for me. That's why I liked the eSATA enclosures for large data transfers. I'd leave it running but only use it once a month or so.

If you only use it once a month, that's a minor inconvenience to have to reboot.

this is my unit but it is currently out of stock. There was an issue with RAID 1 setup hanging at 94% format but I believe that the current firmware addresses it.

I reset the Jumbo Frame Settings to 9000 and see no difference in speed or performance between mounting a drive in my system or in the NAS. I have both of my Seagate's in it and love the unit. I can access both drives from any networked computer without my main system needing to be on and I have backup programs set to automatically run. Outstanding unit.
