MB, CPU Temps
Well I noticed today that my mb, cpu temps are a little high. currently the read
MB: 47C/116.5F CPU: 42/107.5 Now I figured it was because the pc was a little dirty. Opened up case Antec 900 cleaned it all out. It wasn't that dirty. Powered it back on and it still reads the same.. Any other ideas? they both use to run in the low,mid 30's.

Check your CPU and Northbridge heatsinks and fans.

Well cpu temps are now back down to 35C. Mb temps are are 42. fans and heatsinks look good. But what I did as a test is remove the new video card 9800GTx+ as is sits over the south bridge chip set, and there is only about 1/2 clearance between the two. So I installed my old vc 7900GT, and so far temps are not rising above 42. I tried to put the new vc on the second PCIE but with the psu at the bottom, there is only a 1/2 space between the VC and the psu fan..

You may need a side panel fan.

Ok thanks I will add one in, but the funny things is all this time I never needed one as the temps were always low.. Could adding in a new VC card, and 2 more gigs of ram cause the mb temps to increase..

The video card could add heat to the case, and thus in turn cause the temps to rise on everything else.
Better case ventilation would be able to solve that.

I think I found the source of the over heating problem. The south bridge heatsink is pointed slightly upward, and not seated flush on the chip set.. The temps sitting idle started to push over 50C. Called ASUS and shipped out the board again. This was a replacement for my original that died..

That was an issue on the A8N boards. Best solution is replace the heatsink with an aftermarket.
You mean Northbridge, right? |

Here is a picture ofthe board. The heatsink that does not sit flush is the one that is seen in this pictured.. I believe this board has two one north and one south, both connected by heat pipes..

Did that yesterday, and I'll say this, of all the machines I have built this one is the only one that has given me issues, and needed to send the board out twice..
