New DDR Ram Unstable!?

Hey, just bought 2GB of RAM from America doesn't say what brand but they are DDR PC-3200 400 MHz, 2x 1gb sticks i stuck them in and gave the old 512 stick the flick.. Since then my Computer has been rebooting itself every now and again.. i went into my BIOS and Turned off the Auto overclock. after this i started to play BFME.. and 5 mins into my game the computer reboots and shows a Primary IDE drive error.. i rebooted with last known good configuration and switched the slots that the Ram was in.. and now i am writing this up.. any thoughts on whats happening/happened?

If you remove the new ram and go back to the old - goes that clear things up?

Is your pc randomly rebooting itself? You can go to

Control Panel->System icon->Advance tab->Startup & Recovery Settings button. UNcheck/disable the "auto reboot" option. Instead of rebooting you'll probably get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) which can be searched on for a solution.

You can go to http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 to search on for example: STOP 0x00000050

Most likely the ICs planted on the new memory modules are not compatible with the ones on the current modules.
Or the new modules require a different operational voltage then the old ones.
Or both.

What brand and model is the computer or motherboard and what CPU does it have?

You should run ram diagnostics.

ran diagnostic everything came up fine,
Mobo is an ASUS A8S-X UAYZ, CPU is an AMD athlon 64 3000+,
i think the problem was either a) the slot that the memory was in (had some problems with that before) or b) the fact that the mobo was trying to OC' the RAM have changed both of those and had no problem's since but will give it a week run in before i make any conclusions

Okay - nothing proprietary about that setup. Just about any generic ram should work fine as long as it isn't defective. Just wanted to make sure.
