MSI "Gold Accessory Pack" query

Does it come with 2 SATA cables? Cannot find info on MSI's website.

Whatever it comes with I recommend staying away from it. Think Asus or Gigabyte.

For overclocking, MSI is pretty good; I got my Q9550 up to 4.0GHz with the P45 Platinum (although I'm sure other P45 motherboards will do just as well). If you don't feel comfortable for some reason with MSI, Gigabyte and Asus are other good options to look at; I use all three for my builds and occasionally Intel motherboards if it's not an overclocking build and there is a good price on it.

Masaki, do you know the answer to my question about the cables?

And I take it there is nothing wrong with MSI mobos?

I'm not quite sure what you refer to when you say gold accessory pack; if you know the model name of the motherboard, you can take a look at a place like newegg to see what accessories it comes with; I have not heard of gold accessory pack before. I've used MSI motherboards before and haven't had any problems with them, some of my MSI motherboards are over 3 years old and still working well.

All the Asus boards I've built with lately - except for the el cheapo G31 boards - come with anywhere from 2 to 4 SATA data cables (the G31's come with one). Maybe the MSI doesn't come with any and you have to pay extra to buy this "pack" to get what Asus throws in the mobo box? I guess that might be the reason it's the cheapest board you found................

Cheap is the key word here. Even it came with 10 cables it is still a cheap unsupported motherboard.

My MSI P45 Platinum motherboard came with too MANY cables, had 4 SATA cables, 1 IDE cable, 1 Floppy cable, M-Connectors (same as Asus' Q-Connectors), 2 Molex to SATA adpaters, 1 Crossfire cable and 1 Firewire/USB back panel expansion card. All the MSI motherboards I've used came with at least a SATA cable (for the really inexpensive motherboards) a IDE and floppy cable. I doubt there is any manufacturer that sells retail motherboards without cables; no one would buy from them if that was the case, and last I checked a lot of people still buy MSI.

Whenever you get a motherboard, regardless of the manufacturer, make sure you read reviews as they will almost always mention what type of problems you may encounter with them.

A lot of people buy ECS too.

Some people even give ECS good ratings.

You could say the same for most manufacturers, including Asus and Gigabyte. Like I said experience with MSI motherboards may be bad on the business side, but it's not bad on the consumer side.

Why did you pick the most expensive MSI motherboard? Here is a better P45 motherboard comparison in terms of price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130179

Conversely, here is a consumer side review of an Asus P45 that isn't that good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131327

There are always going to be bad models and good models for motherboards, read reviews and you'll find out which one will suit you. Even though you recommend Asus motherboards; you've had problems with them as well like here: Asus M2N68-AM Issue!! and here: Lemon Chipset.

If you've read the reviews on MSI's motherboards you'll note that a lot of the complains are with MSI's software (mostly the liveupdate for flashing the bios) which can be completely bypassed by getting the proper bios and the flashing tool from the bios maker's website. I don't know exactly what you are trying to prove, but in terms of hardware, MSI is just as good as Gigabyte and Asus.

Come on - we all know by now that Masaki loves MSI boards and Khalil hates them - this debate is getting counterproductive. It's like Khalil and I arguing AMD and Intel, we had to stop because it was getting disruptive. This thread is heading the same way, let's shut it down, okay?
