What is the exact drive model? What is your computer or motherboard model?

Hitachi bought out IBM's hard drive division several years ago. The Hitachi site is down right now for maintenance, so I can't be specific - but you probably have the drive misjumpered. The jumper settings on those drives are complicated, you probably have the capacity limit jumper set. You want to set it to 16 head operation, cable select, and no limit.

EDIT: The site is back up, what you need to look for is "2/32gb Clip". This should NOT be used.

As I said - 16 head, cable select, no clip. This assumes you have an 80 wire Ultra ATA cable, and any other drive on the cable is also set to Cable Select.
