Hello Guys,
I have come across this situation today. I have opened my cousin computer to clean up the dust inside. The heat-sink was full of dust and I have reapplied the thermal paste accordingly afterwards. The computer was working just fine before. After I have finished the clean up, the pc boot fine but display a missing boot device. The dvd drive light keep on flashing and the drive does not open when you press the button. I have swap different dvd drive with the same result. All the IDE cables was replaced as they should. In the BIOS, the DVD drive and the hard drive are not even showing up. The processor and the heat-sink are working fine. Do you think that the 5V rails serving the drives from the Power Supply is not producing enough power or I have miss something ? Or do I have to replace the Power Supply ? This is the computer spectre: Asrock Motherboard P4V88+ Prescott 2.66 GHz 512 MB DDR Winpower power supply. Seagate 64 GB Thank for you guide and view. Thierry

Check the IDE cables at both ends. Make sure the drives are jumpered correctly.

Glc I did check it and recheck. The hard drive is on master and dvd on slave. Why is the dvd drive not open up and its light flashing endlessly ?
Is there a sign of Power Supply failure ? Thanks a lot for that. Thierry. |

Possible that the dvd drive coincidently failed. Try starting with only the hdd connected. If it works, but a new dvd drive.

no guys, actually it was the Power Supply. I have mounted a new one, everything has back to normal. But thanks for your guide and suggestions.
