temperature delta between cores

Motherboard: TYAN S2696A2NR
Bios Version: 1.04
CPU: Two Intel E5320 Clovertown 1.86GHz
Memory: Four Kingston KVR667D2D8F5/1G
Video Card: EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GT
Power Supply: Silver Stone ST75F 750W ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V

On both CPUs, there is a 20+ degree (Celsius) temperature difference between cores as reported by Everest. Two cores will run around 40-45 under no load and two will run 60-65. The higher temps seem higher than they should be and the difference between cores on a single CPU seems odd to me.

Can anyone suggest why this might be and how I might get the average temps down to something more reasonable? I've recently reseated the Intel coolers... There doesn't seem to be many decent LGA 771 after market coolers out there. Thermaltake makes one but that's all I've found.

Thanks!

Hey

Let me just get this straight: CPU1-Core1:40-45 Core2:60-65 CPU2: "" ""
Or is it that one set of cores is 40-45 and another set of cores on CPU2 is 60-65?

The temperature difference is between cores on a single CPU. Here's real operating numbers:

CPU #1 / Core #1 54 °C (129 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 37 °C (99 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #3 54 °C (129 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #4 37 °C (99 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #1 55 °C (131 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #2 34 °C (93 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #3 57 °C (135 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #4 35 °C (95 °F)

I could easily understand the two CPU's running at different temps but it seems odd to me that the cores on the same CPU would and that both CPUs exhibit such similar behavior.

For what it's worth, here's the readings under full load (prime95).

CPU #1 / Core #1 78 °C (172 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 58 °C (136 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #3 80 °C (176 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #4 58 °C (136 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #1 -45 °C (-49 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #2 54 °C (129 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #3 -44 °C (-47 °F)
CPU #2 / Core #4 54 °C (129 °F)

I believe the negative numbers occur when temps reach something absurdly high... Like >100°C.

You might want to reseat teh heatsink. Don't use too much thermal paste either.

And try a different temp program. Try coretemp.
