can't boot up - machine hangs!!!
Hi,
I have a Compaq PC that I have been having a problem with more frequently in the last month. The problem started as follows: I booted up the computer one day, and when it got to the DOS screen, I got the 301- Keyboard controller error message. Out of frustration, I kept turning the machine on and off, and it eventually booted up fine. I ran the latest virus checker, and there were no virus'. Lately, the problem has got worse: Sometimes when I turn on the machine, the computer stops before the DOS screen starts. The hard-drive starts to spin up, and then the HD light stays on, and the machine hangs and the monitor won't turn on. I can't do anything, except turn the machine on and off until it eventually boots up fine - until the other day!!! I've been turning the machine on and off over the last 24 hours, but it won't boot up. The hard-drive spins up, it's light stays on, and then the machine stays like that, no screen - nothing!!! Does this sound like a common problem to you? If it's something simple that I can fix myself, I'd really appreciate any info on the problem!!! It's driving me nuts!!! The machine is a Compaq, 566mhz, DVD, CD burner, 256 mb ram, and it usually runs pearler!! Cheers for your time - Shaun Thomson. |

I think best you can do is give it to Compaq Service Center - as I saw this happen before and it was a related motherboard hardware failure - Try to read the online Q/A from Compaqs website..
