Hard Drive Dock Safety

I always wanted to try those sata hard drive docks since I am more comfortable at using a laptop rather than a desktop. However, I am wary about their safety. As I have understood, hard drive docks have more than half of the hard drive exposed unlike those screw-able external hard drive cases.

Are my worries unfounded? Please shed some light into this

It's fine for temporary use. For extended use, I'd recommend an external housing. Apricorn makes solid units.
