A Different HD SATA Controller?
Hello!
I was wondering about something. I brought two new WD SATA Black 640GB hard drives for my computer. My computer is a dual core computer, and has an 80GB SATA hard drive I planned on removing it. Question is, should I also install a different controller card to handle a larger capacity hard drive? Thanks! Toymaker |

I can't think of any reason why you'd want to do it.

Thanks EzyStvy. Just had a hunch as a good friend of mine says I should. I told him I didn’t think I should have to, and told him I will find out for sure from the forum.

What brand and model is the motherboard (if it's a custom) or what brand and model is the computer (if major brand)?

GLC, my computer is a Dell GX620 Dual Core with 2GB RAM (can be upgraded to 4GB); 2.80GHz CPU Speed. It also has two 256MB ATI Radeon X600 Graphic Cards. Does this help? Thanks!

The controller on that motherboard is SATA 3.0, so a card won't improve performance, and the motherboard bios is fully 48 bit LBA, so it can handle any size drive. The only reason to add a card would be if you ran out of ports.
