XP message for floppy disk formatt?

Hi
I have a new system with xp. I keep getting a message when I go to look at a floppy disk that I have used before on my last computer, win 95,or new disks. It says the disk isn't formatted would you like to formatt it? When I click no it still won't let me look in it or use it. I know the disks are formatted already and have used them time and time again.
Any suggestions on how to change it so I can use it like in win 95 or 98 ? The disk drive seems good, I've used it to load old programs from it. And with some trial and error have got it open to look inside some of the ones with data on it. Too much work and hard to replicate.

I've fixed this problem before by using a floppy drive head cleaning disk.
Or, the XP machine could have floppy drive head alignment issue.
Can the Win system read a XP formatted floppy?

I fixed the problem which I've had for a couple or few weeks. I uninstalled it both physicaly and by the device manager. Then reinstalled it. It works fine now. Thanks...........

The problem came back. It seems if I go to device manager and uninstall the floppy and restart it works o.k. for a while. I'm not sure if I shut down for the nite etc. it comes back on. Annoying for sure.

Hi james crowell,

Try removing the floppy from Device Manager while you're in Safe Mode. Check to see if any other device has multiple entries. I find that if I leave the bottom most entry, the device doesn't get re-detected when I boot to Windows.
