Lite-On Audio problems

I have a Lite-On DVD player/CDROM- RW combo, about 3 years old
Lately the Audio portion of any DVD has a lot of static/garbled sound.

I have tried different software players/DVD's. Same Problem. Speakers are working great with other media such as Music files and ITunes. Am I looking at replacing the unit, or a firmware or codec issue ?

No changes had been made to the PC before problem surfaced. No other problems/failures.

Intel P4, D955xbx motherboard- on board sound

If this is recent enough, like yesterday, then do a restore.
You can't /it didn't work ?

You don't say but you checked for on board sound updates ?
We can't tell you about firmware updates if you don't tell us the info on that drive, model #. etc. .

Audio

Sound is fine on other than Drive applications. All updates to Intel board complete.

Won't know model number until I remove.

Thanks for the help, but at Newegg's prices for a new one, i'm not going to spend much more time on it.

This was my 3rd Lite-ON in this PC that is 4 years old. the first 2 were replaced as defective from Lite-ON. There won't be another.

Can't argue that decision, 3 drives dieing in a row is not a good sign.
I've been using LG drives without problem but given the fact that only a few ( like 2 or so) companies make optical drives buyers don't have much choice.
