Hi Gang
Well GLC is always saying I come up with the dumbest posts on here, well hold onto your socks here comes maybe the strangest of all. My wife has this XP computer, has a lot of Graphic programs on it, and a while back she ran into this terrible virus, so we had to dump the whole thing and reformat and install XP again. She is good about backing up all her things, so no big deal. The last few days her computer has been acting up, a blue screen here and there, and some other strange things going on, finally this morning she could not get it to go to the desk top at all. So I messed with it a bit and could not get it to act right either, so finally I said lets dump it again and start from scratch again. I took the 1T HD out and used my computer to reformat it, using the SATA adapter set I have, hooked it all up my computer recognized it, I clicked on the reformat and it went on about 45 to 60 minutes, and said it was done. I reinstalled it back in her computer, reconnected everything, turned it on and to my surprise the complete OP system was there, everything like it had not been touched, the problems are corrected, and it is working fine so far. So what did the reformat do, anything.??????? And why would all the problems it was having previous to reformatting it disappear.????? Treat you to lunch if you can give me a logical answer to this one. I have formated a large # of Drives and have never had this happen, when it said it was formated it was just that, empty, nothing on it. Thanx....Gunny

You better check all your other drives - you may have reformatted the wrong one.

Hi GLC
Ha ha that is funny GLC, no I formatted the right one all right. It was the only one that was wired up. Now what do you have to say. No I am not going crazy, I have my wife to verify the whole process, she witnesed it. She was eager to get it back in her computer, and get the XP install started. Thanx...Gunny |

That doesn't seem very long for a 1tb drive unless you did a quick format. Are you sure that 1tb is not partitioned in someway and you formatted a partition other than the partition containing the OS?

Hi Villarosa
This 1T HD was not in use very long, I did not check what percentage of it that was used before I did the formatting. And when I did the formatting I did not check the quick version, so I assume it did the long route. I have done the quick at times and it don't take normally near as long as this one did. And we just had the one partition when we set it up. As best we can tell everything is there, all the files, programs, etc. An what really bothers me about this is it is back to running normally now, none of the problems we was having before. I was in and out when the formatting was being done, the little green checks were progressing across like normal I thought. It almost did what a repair would do when you use your OS disk and do a repair that way. Everything was left intact, and the trouble portions were deleted. Before we did this we was at the blue screen and could not get past that. It would not recognize the HD like, something was messed up in the boot process. Thanx....Gunny |
