I'm about to back up my Primary Master HD, an 80 Gig Western Digital Caviar, for the purpose of running a WD bad-sector repair program (so-called) (bad sectors already detected)...
I'm running under Win XP Pro, with 1.25 Gig processor speed, and 2 Gig of RAM; there's about 8 Gig of free space left on the HD... Roughly, how long might it take me to back up this entire HD to a 300 Gig external HD? Thanks for any feedback.... Last edited by MarkTwain; 09-29-2009 at 07:41 PM. Reason: reformatting |

What method of backup will you be using? Are you just copying all your personal folders or are you using 3rd party software to save an image of your entire hdd?

I'm using CyberLink PowerBackup to copy all my personal folders (including everything in WINNT)
to the external HD.... |

I'd think something around 30 minutes would be a good guestimate.

If you have bad sectors, don't bother to try to fix them - RMA the drive if it's still on warranty.
