Second Power for Second SATA Hard DRive?

Hi!

This is my first installation of SATA hard drive, and I usually installed IDE hard drives without a problem. After installing two of my SATA hard drives, I got to wonder if I need to add a second power cord to the motherboard. It did show it has one more space on the motherboard for power. Thanks!

Hard drive power cables don't come from the motherboard, they come from the power supply. I don't understand exactly what you are asking.

Ooops…sorry…my bad GLC. Like I said – I am fairly new on this SATA hard drives. I notice how easily it is installing two SATA hard drives (both are WD Black 640 GB hard drives). Inside the computer there were two (P5) cable connectors. I was able to connect both hard drives on these connectors. The other cable, a blue cable (assuming it’s a power cable) with 4 pins connects the first hard drive. Do I need to do the same with the second hard drive, or should it left as is with the P5 cable connector? Thanks!

Each drive needs to plug into the mobo and each drive needs a power cable to hookup with the other power cables.

The flat cables are the data cables, and each drive needs one - it's not like IDE where you can put 2 drives on a single ribbon cable.

EzyStvy and GLC – Thanks for your help! I appreciate that. I am one cable short, so I will have to go a get another one for the second hard drive.

Do you have enough SATA power connectors on the power supply?
