Hello, I have 750 seagate barracuda 7200 RPM for about a year and a few months(Asus motherboard). Running vista, dual boot using wubi/linux and have been working in good condition, last night I put the computer to sleep like usually do. Came back in the morning, and the computer did not load the hard drive.
- When to the Bios, where where my principal HD suppose to be, it said some like not recognize or some like that. - My other HD was showing, but that one is empty. - Before going to work, I opened quick tap behind the HD for loose cables, disconnected the other HD but still the same ![]() Please suggestions, since I do not want to loose every bit of data in there. thanks, Last edited by stcordero; 10-01-2009 at 09:48 AM. |

I would put the "maybe very dead drive" in another pc or external enclosure and see if I can access it.

Do you have a friend or an office pc that can help out?
I see that you mentioned having a second Empty drive...You could install Windows on that drive...BUT, unhook the good drive if you go this route. |

Did you ever check that drive for needed firmware updates? You need to contact Seagate support. If it's locked out due to faulty firmware, you can send it in and they will repair it. When you call Seagate, have the drive in your hand, you will be asked for information that is on the label.

To get your data you can use a USB adapter such as this....
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=2020 I would suggest you HOT PLUG to a PC that has AV and malware protection... If it's not too far gone you should be able to access your data. |

Don't think so...If you can't access it from your PC, (for whatever reason), I don't know of any other way....Maybe someone here has a better idea....But I have saved alot of data with this method that otherwise would have been lost....IMHO...very good investment....Trust me hard drives will fail..not a matter of IF...But WHEN.....

If it's locked out due to firmware, Seagate can FIX IT with no data loss. If it's failed for other reasons, no can do.
If the bios CANNOT recognize the drive, there is NOTHING you can do yourself to get to your data. It will have to go to Seagate or a data recovery company. If it is a FIRMWARE LOCKOUT, Seagate will fix that no charge, but data recovery under ANY other circumstances will cost you hundreds of dollars. |
