Re: Hard Drive. Does It Make Any Difference?
My PC has two Raptor HDs (10K RPM) and one EIDE (7.2K RPM). My Primary drive (a 75 Gig Raptor) which has the OS is running out of space. A great percentage of the space is used by the Flight Sim FSX whereby many of the add-ons are 10-40M in size. The other Raptor (45 Gig) has also very little space left. My third drive (EIDE) however has lots of room still. If I move the FSX game to the EIDE drive will it affect the performance as it pertains to the FSX?
Thanks |

Hard drives are SO cheap these days, why don't you just buy a new 500+ gig drive and put everything on that? Keep it simple...........

Flight Simulator X only runs at 20 FPS maximum regardless of how fast your HD reads or writes and regardless of how fast a computer you have. I was a little bummed when I discovered that for myself using FRAP's. A faster or slower HD makes no difference in frame rate or settings abilities. It only matters in the time it takes to load FSX.
I agree with GLC, keep it simple. I learned that philosophy about computers the hard way.

Hard Drives: Does it make any difference?
GLC:
Point well taken but my hesitancy to replace the primary hard drive is the possibility of encountering problem/s when reloading the OS (validation, etc.). Can I load the OS in the new drive while still having it in the existing primary drive? Any suggestions how to do that? Thanks |

You should not have a problem reactivating it. If your installation is in decent shape, you could always clone it and that won't trigger the activation. Then all you would have to do is copy what you need from the other drives.
