Dual or Quad for PS
Is a quad core processor overkill for Photoshop applications running along side Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Bridge?

No, for running multiple applications or applications that can utilize multiple cores, it is not overkill. Very few applications are written to utilize more than two cores, but that is going to change. Additionally, quad core processors are at reasonable prices.

Do you have a quad core recommendation for a build with a budget of $1200?

For your budget/application probably a Core i7 860 would be the best option. What uses are you going to have for the computer (anything other than Adobe apps)? If you would like some help with a parts list, you should start a thread in BYOPC, and let us know if you need just the tower, or need other things like peripherals, monitor and/or OS.

Good suggestion. I want to dedicate this computer to PS and nothing else except Lightroom and Bridge. I would like to put the OS and PS on a dedicated drive. The data on a separate drive and possibly the scratch disk on a third drive.
