A708.uk HP Correct CPU type?

Hi

AFAIK This pc has the correct spec cpu fitted. It is a Celeron D 2.66Ghz 256 cache 533 FSB code is SL7 DL.

I cannot find any info as to whether the specs are as they should be from the existing cpu (pc not working when given) but cannot see a reason this pc will not operate on the monitor...I have since tried 2 identical spec cpu's (to no avail) after trying a lower spec cpu from another machine and it powered up fine.

Any thoughts?

What steps did you take to determine that the cpu is faulty? The cpu is usually the last thing to break.

Start at the begining of the story and tell us the history behind the pc's troubles.

Well at the end of my post I did say 'I tried another cpu from a slower pc' and it powered up fine so I think it's fair to say it's a CPU issue.

I also said the pc wasn't working when I was given it.......

It may not like the Celeron-D. You can replace it with any other Socket 478 Northwood or Prescott core processor, 400, 533, or 800 FSB. I'd suggest a Pentium 4.

I'm happy to do that, if it will be compatible. Thing is, I'm pretty sure the cpu is the original and even on the front of the pc it has 'Celeron d' as part of it's factory spec. It also worked when I tried the slower celeron d from a borrowed pc.

Doesn't make any sense to me.
