Replacement Mobo
Hi,
I have an emachines T5224, and I want to replace the mobo in it . It currently has an Intel D945GCL. What is a good comparable board for this machine? I'm also wanting to replace the psu, and could use some info there. The HDD is sata, but the optical is IDE. This is going to be an experiment for me, as I have just finished a school for computer repair. I know that the emachines has a bad rep for mobo and psu problems, due to the low-cost items they install. Just have some time and a little money to play with, and, figured this would be a good project to possibly make something out of nothing much. dale_t44. ps: thanks for any help. |

ASUS - GigaByte and MSI make good boards....Picking one out you're self will help make you a stronger Schoold/Grad - Super Geek.
I'm partial to FoxxConn mobo's due in part to their lower prices. |

Unless you replace it with an identical model, you will have to reinstall Windows, and without an eMachines-branded motherboard, you will not be able to use the eMachines recovery CD.
I would recommend that if the machine is working, leave it alone and run it till it drops - then use your training to build a new computer from scratch. |

Asus is best of the best, Gigabyte and Foxconn are distant seconds, MSI is failure heaven, they have improved their customer support and RMA recently but their boards failure rate is still really high.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
Actually,GLC, the board has died, it lost video. I installed an nVidia GeForce 8400GS, it worked for about 2 weeks, and then I had "no signal " showing up on my HPw1907 monitor. So I'm going to be using the box and will probably put most of the parts in new. As far as the OS is concerned I have 3 copies of Vista I can use, all are the OEM I believe, so I'm not worried about the emachines restore discs. The board that is in the box is very hard to find an exact replacement, most sites that list it say it is no longer available. So I'm just looking for a comparable board as far as size and capabilities just to see if I can use this box for maybe a home server or something. |

Here is a suggestion for a mobo that would work for you and it is stable
ASUS P5KPL-AM SE LGA 775 Intel G31 Intel Motherboard I checked the Asus compatiblity page and it is compatible with the 805 and 830 which to me it means it is compatible with your processor D820 processor Asus does not test every single CPU in the line up. Here is an Intel motherboard that works with the D820 as well Intel BOXDG31PR LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Last edited by Khalil; 11-21-2009 at 12:25 PM. |
