Help!!! My cpu will blow up!!

I bought a quad core q9400. after installing the cpu the stock heatsink wouldnt fit. The heatsink doesnt have any screw its just gay plastic that pops in. So i used the old heatsink. My old heatsink is twice as thick than the one i got with the quad core. BUT THE TEMPRATURE OF MY CPU IS 88 C OMG. and i didnt not apply any of thermal paste.

this is the heatsink that i use now (old heatsink). expect without those gay plastic screws.

how do i instert the plastic screws in???

the plastic screws wont fit?? any suggestions.

P.S: could the thermal paste be the problem. If i add thermal paste will it solve the problem?
and is my heatsink better then the stock heatsink??? plz answer

You MOST CERTAINLY have to add thermal paste.

Use the NEW HEATSINK and install it according to instructions. Remove the motherboard from the case and support it with your hand behind the socket. Clean the top of the CPU and make sure the heatsink has the factory applied thermal material. With your finger or thumb, push each plastic pin straight down into the hole HARD till it clicks. Push one pin in, then push the one opposite in. Then do the other 2.

Your CPU will not blow up. Intel CPU's have an overheat shutdown circuit.

NEVER MIND EVERYTHING. This is what i did followed glc's instruction. I removed my motherboard from my case. There was a square thingy under my motherboard that was built to hold the heatsink screws. I removed it and applyed thermal paste ( i took a 1 hour trip to get thermal paste) and popped the gay heatsink in. i feel soo smart now. someone gratz me plz.
